This fantasy book from 2024 sounds like the replacement for the magician I’ve been waiting for

Years ago, The Magicians offered a dark twist on a popular fantasy book series, and now I think this new novel from 2024 does just the same. Many know The Magicians as a five-season fantasy drama that aired on Syfy, but I know it as a series of three fantasy books by Lev Grossman. Whether on screen or on paper, The Magicians follows Quentin Coldwater, a student who gets the chance to study at a magic academy, where he learns that his favorite book series and the magical world they contain are real.

One of my favorite parts of The Magicians is the connection to CS Lewis’ The chronicles of Narnia. The Magicians Fillory is extraordinarily similar to Narnia, and Quentin, like the Pevensie children, is brought to this magical place and needs protection. What I really love about The magicians, but, is how it mixes The chronicles of Narnia with fandom. Quentin is a fan of Fillory before he even goes there. In that respect, he is more like a Chronicles of Narnia Fan as a Character.

“The Lost Story” by Meg Shaffer promises a mature interpretation of the Chronicles of Narnia

How The Lost Story is connected to Narnia

Now, The Magicians is not the only popular fantasy book series inspired by The chronicles of Narnia. Coming out in July 2024. The lost history tells the story of Jeremy and Rafe. When they were children, the two best friends disappeared into the forest for six months. When they returned, Jeremy remembered everything, while Rafe’s memory was seemingly erased. Jeremy vowed to keep the magic they encountered to himself, but when a woman’s sister disappears in the same forest, Jeremy and Rafe must finally confront what they experienced together.

For me, the parallels to The chronicles of Narnia are immediately obvious. As in Lewis’ works, two children are drawn into a world of magic, only to be spat out again after an unforgettable adventure. What I really like about The lost history but apart from his Narnia What Jeremy and Rafe have in common is that they are now adults. The lost history reinterprets the classic Chronicles of Narnia Story with adults and memory loss. In some ways, it’s even more touching as Jeremy and Rafe rediscover themselves and their shared experience.

In view of his Chronicles of Narnia Commonalities and dark framing, I can not help but think that The lost history Is The Magicians Replacement I’ve been looking for for a long time. The lost history certain details are missing that are important for The magicians, Including the magic school, both books seem to have the same common thread: The main characters enter (or re-enter) a magical world they know and love, but may find something darker than expected. Since The Magicians ended in 2014, I always hoped for another maturity Narnia Retelling, and now I think I have finally found it in The lost history.

The Magicians

Based on the novel of the same name by Lev Grossman, The Magicians is about Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant young man who gets a place at a magical college called Brakebills. There, along with his friends Alice, Eliot, Margo and Penny, he learns magic and uncovers magical secrets that go far beyond his wildest imagination and that take him to various fantastical places, including the world of Fillory.
