STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WSVN) — A man in Sterling Heights, Michigan, narrowly escaped injury when a truck plowed into his front yard and nearly hit him as he sat on his porch.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Raad Herfi, the homeowner, described the terrifying moments when the truck sped through his yard.

“I’m sitting there playing my game on my phone,” Herfi said. “I heard something like fireworks. I jumped up and saw this blue pickup truck coming at too high a speed. It hit the tree and the sign.”

Surveillance footage from the Ring doorbell on Herfi’s porch shows the truck driving past a street sign, an SUV parked on the street and a mailbox before crashing into the porch and garage, leaving a trail of destruction and black smoke.

“I stopped here. I didn’t know where to go, left or right. I didn’t have time,” Herfi said. “He came to the porch, hit everything here and went into the garage. Boom, smoke, black smoke.”

Herfi ran onto the front lawn and called 911. While investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the accident, it is believed that the driver of the truck suffered a medical emergency.

Herfi expressed his gratitude for surviving the incident.

“Today I have a new life, a new life. God, I have a God up there – He helped me,” the Michigan homeowner said. He also reflected on how close he would have come to a different outcome. “If I had been sitting on a different chair on the porch or moving in a different direction, it would have been a lot different. He pushed me into the garage with all that stuff. He would have taken me with him if I had died like that.”

The crash remains under investigation.
