After another classic race on the streets of Chicago, Alex Bowman has secured his place in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. But the regular season championship was also thrown into disarray after the 75-lap race was canceled due to reaching the scheduled time limit.
Despite his accident, Kyle Larson still leads the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season standings. The Hendrick Motorsport driver is 11 points ahead of another Hendrick Motorsport driver.
Chase Elliott is the driver currently in second place and has been trying to catch Larson for weeks. Just behind Elliott is Tyler Reddick, the best Toyota driver who has had consistent results over the past two weeks and is in third place.
Toyota drivers are also in fourth and fifth place, while Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. complete the top five.
Three of Hendrick Motorsport’s four drivers are in the top ten, with William Byron in sixth overall. Just behind the Chevrolet driver is the best Ford in the championship, with last year’s NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney in seventh.
He has slipped to eighth in the championship points after a late crash by Christopher Bell last night. He is still ahead of playoff contenders Ty Gibbs and Brad Keselowski, who are ninth and 10th, respectively.
