INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has extended the agency’s Air Quality Action Day forecast in five regions through Friday, June 21, 2024.

Ozone levels are expected to Area “Unhealthy for sensitive groups” (orange) in the following areas:

  • Central/East Central Indiana, including the cities: Bloomington, Brookville, Columbus, Frankfort, Indianapolis, Greensburg, Kokomo, Lebanon, Martinsville, Muncie, Richmond and all other cities in the region.
  • Northwest Indiana, including the cities: Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Kentland, LaPorte, Michigan City, Portage, Rensselaer, Valparaiso and all other cities in the area.
  • Southeast Indiana, including the cities: Brownstown, Corydon, Jeffersonville, Madison, New Albany, Salem, Versailles and all other cities in the area.
  • Southwest Indiana, including the cities: Bedford, Bloomfield, Evansville, Huntingburg, Mount Vernon, Paoli, Princeton, Rockport, Tell City, Vincennes and all other cities in the area.
  • West/West Central Indiana, including the cities: Crawfordsville, Covington, Delphi, Fowler, Greencastle, Lafayette, Newport, Monticello, Spencer, Sullivan, Terre Haute and all other cities in the area.

Highs are expected to reach the 90s again tomorrow in most, if not all, of Indiana, which combined with slightly lower afternoon humidity and light and variable winds could result in ozone levels that could Unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG) Range. Much of the eastern United States has been under a persistent dome of high pressure for the past few days, and with no change in the air mass, we expect elevated ozone levels to continue for another day.
