4 Israeli technology products that are famous in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The aftermath of Israel’s deadly attacks on Palestine has sparked criticism from various quarters around the world. One of the criticisms is a boycott of widely used Israeli products, including technology products.

In protest, the international community is calling for a boycott of Israeli products. This effort gave rise to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The aim of this movement is to end international support for Israel’s oppression of the Palestinians and to pressure Israel to comply with international law.

In Indonesia itself, there are a number of Israeli technology products that are now being called for a boycott. So which Israeli technology products are widely used in Indonesia?

1. Waze

Waze is a navigation application developed in Israel since 2008. Waze has been downloaded over 100 million times through the Google Play Store. This application is community-based and helps users reach their destinations through real-time traffic reports and up-to-date maps.

According to the description of the official app, Waze provides live reports on traffic, construction sites, accidents, police and a variety of other information. From route changes to avoid traffic jams to real-time safety updates to notifications about low gas prices.

2. Intel microprocessor

Intel Israel began operations in 1974 and became the development and manufacturing center of Intel Corporation. Intel develops and produces digital technologies and integrated and networked computer platforms.

According to the official website intel.comIntel focuses on two main areas in Israel: development and manufacturing. Israel is home to the world’s largest Intel development center. For example, the 7th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processors are generally developed in Israel.

3. Hewlett Packard or HP Inc

The BDS movement said that technology company HP Inc. provided services to the offices of wartime leaders in Israel, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Smotrich. HP is also said to have played a key role in the war by supplying the Israeli army with computer equipment and managing government data centers.

HP also operates the Aviv system, a computerized database of the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority. This system enables Israel to collect information on illegal settlements in Palestine.

4. Siemens

The next technology product linked to Israel is a German company called Siemens. According to the BDS movement, Siemens is involved in plans to build the EuroAsia Interconnector. This underwater power cable will connect illegal Palestinian settlements to the European power grid. This will allow Siemens to profit from the trade between Israel and the European Union in electricity generated from fossil gas.
