It’s Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun in the “He Said, She Said Max” documentary

A new two-part docuseries available on Max this weekend dives deep into a dispute between two of the most polarizing figures in the modern music industry — Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun — and attempts to explain why Taylor decided to re-record her first six albums a few years ago.

Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood debuts on Max on June 21, with the two hour-long episodes following a “vs.” format. One episode focuses on Swift’s side of the story, while the other looks at the situation from Braun’s perspective. The central story is the sequence of events that led Swift to re-record her first six albums in order to retain full control over these new masters, thereby diminishing the value of her old masters, which she says were sold against her will.

Braun, a controversial music industry impresario who acts even independently of his involvement with Swift, claimed his deal was simply a direct takeover of Swift’s old music label, which contained her masters. His side claims Swift had the opportunity to buy her masters but chose to portray herself as the victim and turn the situation into a personal attack, even though it was a label takeover – this type of business transaction happens all the time.

The docuseries premieres on June 21 at 3:01 a.m. ET and 12:01 a.m. PT on Discovery+ in the UK and worldwide on Max.

In the announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery, viewers are promised a “comprehensive examination of the feud – exploring the intricacies of music ownership, gender dynamics in the industry and the power of fan influence, while also taking a closer look at the two polarized sides of the dispute so viewers can make up their own minds.”

WBD President Charlotte Reid added: “Taylor Swift’s dispute with Scooter Braun over ownership of her music has exploded into the mainstream, taking contract law from the boardroom to social media and into the public eye. It’s a high-profile, high-interest story that has opened up a debate about fandom and dominated headlines. It will resonate with our viewers who are keen on accessible documentaries like ‘vs’, which continues to be a popular format on Discovery+.”
