I worry about my freedom – being too famous is hell

French actress Juliette Binoche said she was worried about her freedom. It would be “hell” if she became “too famous.”

The 59-year-old television and film star, known for her role as Vianne in the 2000 romantic comedy “Chocolat,” plays famous fashion designer Coco Chanel in the new 10-part drama series “The New Look” and spoke about whether she enjoys getting recognition for her roles.

She told Radio Times: “It depends on the moment.

“It can be a burden. It’s not always the kind of attention you want.

“I go to the market every Sunday and people recognize me, but so what?

“If they want to see my face without makeup, they can have it.

“I have acted in films without makeup. When I appear in the theater, people forget about me for a while.”

“I’m worried about The New Look being seen in people’s homes,” she added.

“I’m worried about my freedom. When you’re too famous, it’s hell – you can’t go out and live your life.”

“You will become a prisoner.

“But if someone wants a photo with me, I won’t think about it too long, because after all, I chose to be an actor.

“If it makes her happy, it makes me happy.”

Of her role in the new Apple TV+ series, she added: “I discussed the story at length with (series creator) Todd A. Kessler and the writers because there are so many conflicting things to say about Chanel.
