Tanner Houck, Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers will represent the Boston Red Sox as American League reserves in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game later this month. And they’ll see some familiar faces at Globe Life Park.

Chris Sale was named to the All-Star team for the eighth time on Sunday night. In his first season with the Braves after being traded from Boston to Atlanta before the start of the 2024 season, the left-hander has a record of 11-3 with a 2.71 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 99 ⅔ innings pitched.

It was a comeback year for Sale, who spent more time injured than on the mound in his final years with the Red Sox. He had bad luck with injuries in Boston and admitted that while he had some of his best days with the Red Sox, he also had some of his worst.

Phillies relief pitcher Matt Strahm was also named to the National League All-Star team along with Sale. The left-hander is in his second season with Philadelphia after spending 2022 with the Red Sox. In 35 appearances this season, he has a 1.64 ERA and 44 strikeouts.

Mookie Betts was named to the NL reserves as shortstop – the first time he has made the team at that position. He was an All-Star seven other times as an outfielder. The former Red Sox star will not be able to take part in the Midsummer Classic, however, as he broke his left hand in June after being hit by a pitch.

It is unclear who will replace Betts in the NL for the injured player or if other Red Sox players will be called up to the AL team as replacements.

The MLB All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 16 in Arlington, Texas.
