Seattle Mariners lose another series, losing to the Blue Jays in overtime 4:5

SEATTLE (AP) — Daulton Varsho gave the lead with an RBI single in the 10th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 on Sunday.

Varsho hit a base hit with two outs against Mariners relief pitcher Collin Snider (0-1), bringing home automatic runner Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from second base, giving the Blue Jays a series victory over the Mariners, who have now lost six series in a row.

Chad Green (2-1) took the win. Génesis Cabrera threw the 10th for his second save.

Mariners centerfielder Victor Robles opened the scoring with a solo home run against Blue Jays starter José Berríos in the third inning, but Toronto tied it in the fourth inning when Bo Bichette led off with a ground-rule double against Kirby and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Kirk with one out.

Mitch Garver put Seattle back in the lead with a three-run homer in the fifth inning, his 12th of the season, but George Springer tied the game in the seventh inning with a three-run blast against Mariners relief pitcher Ryne Stanek.

Stanek came in to replace Mariners starter George Kirby after Kirby allowed back-to-back singles. After Stanek struck out Kevin Kiermaier, Springer threw a fastball 400 feet to center field, tying the game 4-4.

Kirby allowed seven hits and three earned runs with eight strikeouts in six innings.

Jose Berrios allowed four earned runs and seven hits in six innings for the Blue Jays, while recording ten strikeouts.

Blue Jays second baseman Leo Jiménez’s second-inning single was his first MLB hit.

ALL STAR

Mariners RHP Logan Gilbert was named to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his MLB career on Sunday. Gilbert has a 2.91 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 117 ⅔ innings. His 14 good starts are the most in the major leagues, while his WHIP of 0.92 is the best in the AL.

TRAINING ROOM

Mariners CF Julio Rodriguez was not in the lineup a day after he left the first inning with a hamstring injury. Rodriguez’s MRI results were negative and he came in as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of Sunday’s game … RHP Bryan Woo and RHP Gregory Santos both made rehab appearances at High-A Everett on Saturday.
