I hope this Netflix live-action anime show gets renewed after a big cameo at the end

Summary

  • Parasyte: The Grey is a unique live-action anime adaptation on Netflix with different characters than the manga and a South Korean setting.
  • Shinichi Izumi’s cameo appearance at the end of Parasyte: The Grey hints at a possible second season and connects the K-drama with the anime and manga.
  • If there is a second season, other parasite groups, Shinichi’s experiences, and the relationship between Su-in and Heidi could be addressed.

I wish Parasyte: The GreyNetflix’s most unique live-action anime series, was set to get a second season after a huge manga cameo at the end that left me wanting more. There are many live-action anime adaptations on Netflix, some of which are much better than others. Netflix has released some disappointing adaptations, such as Death notice (2017) and Cowboy Bebopbut it has also delivered some great shows like One piece. Fortunately, Parasyte: The Grey was a great interpretation of the world of parasite.

It must be pointed out that Parasyte: The Grey was not a direct adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga. Instead, the Netflix K-drama was set in South Korea and followed a different set of characters. I liked the idea of having a live-action spinoff story instead of a proper adaptation of Parasyte: The Maximespecially because there have already been two live-action films based on the source material. Parasyte: The Grey contained an important connection to the anime in the form of Shinichi Izumi.

Parasyte: The Grey season 2 must come after Shinichi’s live-action cameo

Shinichi Izumi could be an important player in a possible second season

Parasyte: The Grey ends with Jun-kyung, the leader of Team Grey, being visited by a Japanese man who claims to be a parasite consultant. This man turns out to be a live-action version of Shinichi Izumi, the main character of the parasite Manga. Shinichi was also the main character of the parasite Animes, Parasyte: The Maximwhich covered the manga. This was the second live-action version of Shinichi, the first being from the Japanese parasite Films based on the manga. Masaki Suda played Shinichi in Parasyte: The Greywhile Shôta Sometani played the character in the film.

Parasyte: The GreyThe end of confirmed that the K-drama takes place in the same universe as the anime. Shinichi is significantly older in Parasyte: The Grey compared to the end of the anime, which means that the Netflix live-action series takes place after the original story. Although Parasyte: The Grey tells a self-contained story about Su-in, Shinichi’s cameo at the end makes me wish there would be a second season. There were no updates about a possible Parasyte: The Grey Season 2 so farbut I would be very disappointed if such a big cameo came to nothing.

What would season 2 of Parasyte: The Grey be about?

Parasyte: Season 2 of “The Grey” could explore other parasite groups

I believe there is room for Parasyte: The Grey keep going. I would have liked to have seen more of the relationship between Su-in and Heidi, which was very different from the dynamic between Shinichi and Migi. The series will also have Kang-woo working for Team Grey, meaning the parasite threat isn’t over yet. And finally, Shinichi’s cameo is the perfect hook for a sequel. Parasyte: The Grey Season 2 would essentially be a live-action sequel to the anime and would show what Shinichi has been like since the end of the original story. Of course Parasyte: The GreyThe main character is Su-in, not Shinichi.

Migi, Shinichi’s parasite, holds at the end of the

Even, Shinichi could be a great supporting character in the second season of Parasyte: The Grey. He would be by far the most experienced member of Team Grey, as he has already been fighting and studying parasites for a while by the time Su-in’s story happens. I would also like to see how Shinichi reacts to Su-in’s relationship with her parasite and vice versa, as they are completely different. Heidi acts as Su-in’s alter ego, while Migi is portrayed as a “pet” who is always near Shinichi and can interact with him.

Parasyte: The ending of “Grey’s” is self-contained enough if there is never a second season

Su-in’s story had a satisfying ending.

Parasyte: The Grey featured the same alien invasion as the anime, just from a different perspective. The story was set in South Korea and the series followed a certain group of parasites led by a creature that wanted to infiltrate humanity’s most important organizations. Starting from the local church, this parasite planned to become mayor and even president. Parasyte: The Grey also explored Su-in’s backstory and her relationship with her parasite alter Heidi. At the end of the showThe parasite organization had been defeated and Su-in had become friends with her parasite.

Netflix’s live-action show “Parasyte” summed up the 2 most important things about the anime

Parasyte: The Grey wasn’t a direct adaptation of Parasyte: The Maxim, but the live-action series did two important things right compared to the anime.

Su-in overcomes her fears and traumas at the end of the series, which is why Parasyte: The Grey doesn’t necessarily need a second season. Having Shinichi appear in live-action on the show was a great piece of fanservice that also helped connect the K-drama to the original manga. Although I liked Shinichi and Su-in in Parasyte: The Grey Season 2, the Netflix series has a satisfying ending. Shinichi’s cameo is enough to tell viewers that the protagonist of parasite is doing well and is now working as a consultant.

Parasyte: The Grey - TV Series Poster

Parasyte: The Grey

Parasyte: The Grey imagines a world where alien parasites begin to take over human hosts, mixing horror with psychological drama. The original manga follows a young man who forms a symbiotic relationship with his alien parasite, leading to a morally complex journey as they face other parasites that threaten humanity. This adaptation adds a unique twist, focusing on the gray areas of survival, identity, and the essence of being human.OVERRIDE
