Apart from their surprise songs, most people don’t go to a Taylor Swift Concert looking for a surprising ending – but most people are not M. Night Shyamalan.

While promoting his latest thriller, CatchShyamalan, 53, revealed the film’s fascinating mix of influences. The writer and director shared in an interview with Rich released on Monday, July 1st, that his pitch for the film was: “What if the silence of the Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?”

The movie stars Josh Hartnett as Cooper, a father who raises his daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue) to a concert by a Swift-like pop star, the fictional Lady Raven (played by the director’s daughter, Saleka Shyamalan). However, the concert turns out to be a covert operation aimed at catching a notorious serial killer known as “The Butcher.” Hartnett’s character must hide in plain sight to avoid paying for his misdeeds.

The plot is inspired by the real-life 1985 Operation Flagship, in which fugitives were lured into attending a fake event with the promise of free NFL tickets and the chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl. The undercover operation, which involved police officers disguised as cheerleaders and mascots, resulted in the arrest of over 100 fugitives.

“It was hilarious,” Shyamalan told the outlet. “The cops were literally cheerleaders and mascots. These guys were dancing when they came in. And they all got caught. It was so wacky and funny.”

Shyamalan calls the film a “very scary and Hitchcockian” experience. The film depicts a real concert, which Shyamalan directed.

“I conducted an entire concert!” sixth Sense Director shared. “And it wasn’t just a background thing. It’s just as important. There’s no fake concert going on.”

Similar to Shyamalan and his exciting twists, the 34-year-old Swift leaves her fans with every stop on her Epoch Tour – its twists and turns are more delightful than frightening.
