BWhether it’s slow RnB, upbeat pop or spacey hip hop, WHERE IS ELA always strives to offer something fresh to their new and old audiences.

Her latest publication “I want to drive“” (Independent, June 29) features glitchy synths with a rich tone that set the soundscape before blaring 808s fill the track. With an effortless falsetto, Ela blurs the line between rapping and singing at the beginning of the track.

When Ela talks about the lyrics of the song, she says Atwood Magazine“It’s not meant to be taken seriously.” The ethos of the song is fun. The adrenaline mixed with the anxiety you feel when you meet someone new. Lyrics like “I gotta touch some grass” really prove how you can make a great song with lyrics that don’t take themselves too seriously.

The track builds to a euphoric chorus, with Ela’s ethereal vocals stealing the show. The melody floats over the instrumental while the lyrics “I want to ride“” takes listeners into a world of sonic bliss. As with her previous works, Ela succeeds in making “I Wanna Ride” a sweet catchy tune that will captivate audiences from the first listen.

The bridge slows the tempo down while sweeping vocal melodies take the listener into another dimension. Just before you can get lost in it, it comes back hard with the final chorus that leads into an outro that leaves you wanting more.

A quick look at WHERE IS ELA’s artist biography reveals two words that perfectly describe their sound: Genre-Fluid.

While she doesn’t shy away from playing 808 trap beats (“Calling You” and her contribution to J-ON’s “DON’T”), “I WANNA RIDE” is a whole new sound. Her openness to sonic experimentation speaks to (and highlights) her abilities as a musician. That she dares to outdo herself with each new track really shows that WHERE IS ELA can do what she wants with her music, however she wants. This track comes in the middle of summer and is sure to be a club classic.

WHERE IS ELA is a solo project based in Boston, Massachusetts.
