DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two people died and 19 were injured in a shooting on Detroit’s East Side, according to Michigan State Police.

It happened in the area of ​​Reno Street and Rossini Drive. The scene was the result of a street party gone wrong early Sunday morning.

“DPD will implement a comprehensive new strategy regarding street festivals and will announce full details tomorrow at a meeting with the police chief and mayor,” a department spokesperson told 7 News Detroit on Sunday afternoon.

The police have set up a three-block exclusion zone in the area.

MSP, who assists Detroit police as part of the Homicide Task Force, says there are no suspects in custody following the incident.

“I was saddened and deeply disgusted to learn of the mass shooting early this morning on Detroit’s east side in which 21 young people, average age 19, were shot and two of them succumbed to their injuries,” said City Council President Mary Sheffield in a statement she posted to X“This unspeakable tragedy is another reminder that gun violence is an epidemic in Detroit and across the country. We must chart a new course of action, and I urge everyone to pitch in to put an end to the senseless killings and destruction of families in our community… my heart and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.”
