Blu travels through the “Wild West” on the new single produced by Evidence: Stream

Blu is undoubtedly one of the most legendary and prolific underground rappers of the last twenty years. Did you really think he was going to slow down? Additionally, the Los Angeles MC recently released the Evidence-produced single “Wild Wild West,” which was only available as a YouTube music video at press time (but it might hit streaming services soon, so check your favorite DSP). Just a few weeks ago, he released another collaboration with Evidence called “Lost Angel,” so hopefully that means we have a full team project on the way.

Furthermore, in this new cut, Blu unsurprisingly devotes himself to the “Wild West” of Californian crime, gangs and street life. ABC Spitter specifically addresses his former homes and neighborhoods in Los Angeles, commenting on the normality of violence in those regions. The delicate soul beat and melancholic mood suggest that he is trying to escape these cycles and not let these circumstances hinder him, while also showing empathy and solidarity with those who are still struggling.

Meanwhile with short projects like Roll up under Blu’s belt and many other long-form releases such as Royal Blue in 2024, we can’t wait to hear what’s next. If you haven’t heard “Wild Wild West” yet, check out the music video below on YouTube. Also, drop your thoughts on this song in the comments section down there, as well as some standout bars from the record. As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest killer hip hop drops around the clock.

I lived in Hawthorne, on 135th Street,
Slauson, just off 54th Street,
Crenshaw, where Nipsey ruled the city,
Roll with me where the mates puke, rolling 60s

About the author

Gabriel Bras Nevares is a music and pop culture news writer for HotNewHipHop. He started as a weekend writer in 2022 and has developed a deep knowledge of hip hop news and releases since joining the team full-time. Whether it’s regular reporting or occasional interviews and album reviews, he continues to seek out the most relevant news for his audience and find the best new releases in the genre. What excites him most is finding interesting pop culture stories, as well as a deeper passion for the art form of hip hop and its contemporary productions. In particular, Gabriel enjoys the fringes of rap music: the experimental, boundary-pushing and raw alternatives to the mainstream sound. A proud native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, he also stays up to date on the archipelago’s local scene and its greatest musical exponents in reggaetón, salsa, indie and beyond. Before working at HotNewHipHop, Gabriel produced several short documentaries, artist interviews, venue spotlights, and audio podcasts on various genres and music greats. Hardcore punk and go-go music informed much of his coverage during his time at George Washington University in DC. His favorite hip hop artists working today are Tyler, The Creator, Boldy James, JPEGMAFIA, and Earl Sweatshirt.
