Horrifying details of my mother’s death: She drowns in a boating accident while “drunk” and her brother-in-law is charged

Horrifying details have emerged about the heartbreaking death of a young mother who drowned during a “drunken” boat party in Texas on July 4.

Three people jumped into the water to rescue Jerri MacMeekin when she fell from the boat she was partying on on the Fourth of July. But despite their best efforts, they were unable to find her until authorities found her body floating in Lake Conroe in Willis, Texas. One of the men who allegedly accidentally caused the death of the mother of a newborn girl was her brother-in-law.

It happened when his reckless, drunken driving led to an accident where she fell into the water and disappeared. Jerri had not put on a life preserver when she fell. When the family realized around 9 a.m. that she had fallen in after her boat collided with another, her family dove into the water to try to save her.

Her brother-in-law, Kyle Dean MacMeekin, 29, and his friend Shane Everett Anniboli, 44, jumped into the water along with another woman who was on the boat to rescue her. Despite all their efforts, they were unable to find the young mother.

Jerri MacMeekin was discovered floating in the Texas River hours later. The woman’s brother-in-law and his friend were arrested for “boating under the influence.” Both men have since posted bail, according to Law & Order.

Captain Rosario of the Montgomery County Marine Patrol said in the report: “When we arrived on the scene, we were able to locate two of the men who had jumped overboard to rescue her. We then began searching for two women. One woman had gotten out to help search for her. We found her safe on a dock about an hour later.”

“It’s not fun for us to pull people out of the water, especially on a holiday weekend when you should be having fun and enjoying family time,” said Capt. Miguel Rosario of the Montgomery County 1st District Sheriff’s Office. The Montgomery County 1st District Marine Division, with assistance from Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, Montgomery County Hospital District, North Montgomery Fire Department and Conroe Fire Department, arrived on scene minutes after the 911 call was received.

After “several long hours” of searching, Jerri MacMeekin’s body was finally found and recovered by a rescue and recovery diver team at 11:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Jerri is said to have been a senior estimator and portfolio manager for Paragon Services and BKB Construction in Houston. In January 2021, she exchanged wedding vows with Brandon MacMeekin, 32, and recently became a mother to a baby girl.

“I am proud to have stood by my best friend and brother as he married the woman of his dreams,” posted Kyle MacMeekin on Facebook, who tragically died in the fatal accident. On December 14, 2023, Brandon and Jerri announced the birth of their baby daughter, Georgia Grace MacMeekin.

The sweet little one weighed 3.8 kg. “Our mommy finally got the daughter she always wanted!” was Jerri’s reaction to the birth of her child. In another post announcing her pregnancy, Jerri explained: “Our hearts have never been fuller, our smiles have never been bigger, we couldn’t be more thankful for this precious gift!”

Sad news followed, as she only had seven months to be a mother to her newborn. The Houston Chronicle reported that Anniboli and Kyle MacMeekin were on separate boats, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon, while the two MacMeekins were traveling on pontoon boats.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr. Ligon pointed out: “It looks like we’re dealing with two drivers charged with drunk driving and a woman killed in an accident on the lake… These are the dangers of sitting on a boat all day drinking, the dangers of being on a crowded lake. These are the things we try to avoid every summer when we try to show people how deadly the roads and lakes are.”

“Records show MacMeekin was released after posting $3,000 bail, while Anniboli was released on $1,000 bail. Police stated, “Constable Philip Cash extends his deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends and reminds everyone at Lake Conroe to use life-saving equipment anytime they are on a boat or in the water. Regardless of your experience in the water, personal flotation devices (PFDs or life jackets) save lives.”
