Kendrick Lamar sounds the death knell for Drake with the video “Not Like Us”

Owls are a mascot of sorts for Drake, who founded the record label OVO Sound and lifestyle brand OVO. (Note that the letters look like an owl emoji.)

Unfortunately for Drake, Lamar also has access to owls and he put them to good use for his music video.

In one scene, he hits an owl piñata with a stick until it explodes, while an on-screen disclaimer pokes fun at “OVO” with an insult we can’t print here.

Towards the end of the video, Lamar stares at an owl in a cage. The background music stops as he walks out of frame and the bird faces the camera all alone.

Lamar’s children and fiancée Whitney Alford have a striking cameo appearance

During a particularly heated moment of the feud, in early May, Drake released a seven-minute diss track called Family matters These included unsubstantiated claims that Lamar had abused his fiancée, Whitney Alford. The song also suggested that Dave Free, Lamar’s longtime creative collaborator, was the actual father of one of Lamar and Alford’s children.

Lamar responded to these allegations by making Free the co-director of his new music video, which includes a scene in which Alford, Lamar and their two young children dance in a living room to lyrics clearly aimed at Drake: “The family thing and the truth of the matter / It was God’s plan to show y’all the liar.”

Drake is not the only one making serious accusations in the wake of the rap controversy. Not like us contained several lines that suggested, without evidence, that Drake was a pedophile. Lamar expanded on them even further in the video, playing hopscotch in one scene while rapping, “Ain’t you tired? Try to hit a chord and it’s probably A minor.”

Push-ups, Tams Burgers and other hidden messages

Lamar was also filmed doing push-ups on concrete blocks, an obvious response to Drake’s diss track pushupsthat attacked Lamar’s artistic integrity.

To add even more oomph, Lamar also peppered the video with nods to his Compton, California roots. Compton-born NBA star DeMar DeRozan made a cameo, as did Los Angeles-raised dancer Tommy the Clown. In the video, crowds and dancers visit local landmarks like the Compton Courthouse and Tam’s Burgers.

Lamar also sourced some of the clothing locally, including a hat designed by Ghetto Rodeo and Kalo Soil, as well as a sweatshirt by Kalo Soil.
