Country singer undergoes heart surgery and cancels performances

Country singer-songwriter Mark Chesnutt announced that he is on the road to recovery after emergency heart surgery.

In a post on Instagram, the news of the singer of “Bubba Shot The Jukebox”’s recent health problems was shared.

The caption of the post read: “Mark Chesnutt, one of the most recognizable voices of country music of the ’90s and a mainstay of the honky-tonk scene for more than three decades, suffered a heart problem over the weekend and was hospitalized on Sunday evening, June 16. Mark had to undergo emergency bypass surgery.”

The caption goes on to say that Chesnutt will need time to recover and will have to cancel performances. Fans are asked to respect the privacy of Chesnutt and his family at this time.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows,” said Mark Chesnutt.

“I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and the fans for your understanding, prayers and support and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky-tonk near you,” Chesnutt added in the post’s caption.

His fans immediately pledged their support to Chesnutt and offered to give him the time he needs for his recovery.

“OMG – please get well soon and don’t rush your recovery,” wrote one commenter.

Chesnutt was scheduled to perform in Louisiana and Texas on June 21 and 22. He was also scheduled to perform at Dauphins Countryfest on June 30 in Manitoba, Canada.

The festival posted its support for Chesnutt on Instagram, saying: “Dauphins Countryfest is extremely saddened to hear that Mark Chesnutt will not be performing on our stage this summer.”

“We continue to send healing vibrations to Mark and his family during his recovery,” the post continued.

“Our team is working hard to secure another act for our wonderful Sunday program and will make an announcement as soon as possible.”

Chesnutt, a Texas native, is known for songs such as “It’s a Little Too Late,” “Brother Jukebox,” “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” “Blame It On Texas,” “Old Flames Have New Names,” and “It Sure Is Monday.”

Chesnutt’s website currently lists tour dates beginning again on September 5th.
