Rochester boy presents coloring book at sensory-friendly painting party

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The release of the Super Kiddos Coloring Book and a sensory-friendly coloring party took place Saturday at the Charlotte Branch Library in Rochester. The event not only celebrated the release of the coloring book, but also Michael Burgess Jr. and his journey.

Burgess Jr. was diagnosed with autism at age 2 and cannot speak. Family members say they chose the title “to express our belief that children with disabilities have remarkable abilities and perspectives, as well as true superpowers that enable them to navigate the world in inspiring ways and highlight their extraordinary abilities.”

For the young author’s family, the painting party was more than just an event. The goal was to celebrate inclusion and recognition in a playful way.

“It is a heartfelt reminder that every child deserves to be seen, celebrated and given a space to thrive, regardless of their abilities,” family members said. “They (the children) deserve to have an inclusive, welcoming environment available to them consistently and comfortably, ensuring that such events are part of their everyday lives and not just offered occasionally.”

“Super Kiddo Coloring Book & Positive Affirmations for Boys” is available on Amazon.
