The casting director for Joker: Foil for Two opened via Lady Gaga‘s appearance as Harley Quinn.

The 38-year-old actress and pop star will play the iconic antihero along with Joaquin Phoenixs version of the Joker in the musical film.

At a recent appearance, Casting Director Francine Maisler mirrored on Gaga and revealed that she was not the one who cast her in the project, adding that the singer “surprised” her in a big way.

“She’s so good at it, folks,” Francine said via Deadline. “She will blow your mind. I did not suggest Lady Gaga. It wasn’t my idea. That was Todd Phillipsin front of me. But I tell you, it’s really surprising – and really good. I saw it and was really surprised.”

Francine continued, saying: “I mean, we all knew what she could do in A star Is Bornbut I thought, “Oh, well, that’s kind of her thing.” Something she can do and just be authentic. But this… man, she’s good. Joaquin knocks you out, but the fact that she could hold her own and be authentic – and not just be swept off the screen by the role and the performance – shows that she is good.”
