Taylor Swift performs 2006 song “Mary’s Song” live for the first time in 16 years; DEETS Inside

There are a few timeless gems in pop culture history that remain evergreens for many. For Swifties, one such gem is the 2006 hit “Mary’s Song.” During her performance in Amsterdam, Taylor Swift delivered a stunning three-song mashup. She started with “So High School” and “Everything Has Changed” during the Secret Songs segment and ended the set with the classic 2006 song, which has taken on new meaning since she started dating NFL star Travis Kelce.

Fans have been feeling nostalgic and dancing to the song since the singer first sang it since 2008. Plus, the part where she crooned “I’ll by 87, you’ll be 89 / I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine / In the sky, oh my my my” had a special connection to the couple, since Kelce’s jersey number is 87 and Swift and Kelce were born in 1989 (and she also has an album titled 1989).

Fans’ reactions to Swift’s iconic performance

According to People, this was the first time Taylor performed the song, which is from her self-titled debut album, live since 2008. Several fans were impressed by X and responded to the performance earlier this summer.

One user wrote, “I mean my heart could explode. How beautiful,” followed by another user gushing over the couple, writing, “She couldn’t stop looking at him.”

Another user was very expressive, saying, “This gave me so many goosebumps! Thank you for this amazing video and for sharing it with us too!!! What an amazing show, the crowd singing along gave me goosebumps.”

Since Travis Kelce was in the audience, Swift also changed the lyrics to “Karma” to mention the guy from the Chiefs; she always sings this song when the NFL player is in the audience.

More about the European shows of Eras Tour

Those famous Eras Tour shows, which helped fuel Swift’s billionaire status, came in the middle of the European leg of the tour. This was the first time the artist visited the Netherlands on tour since the 1989 world tour in 2015, after skipping the country during the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour. Swift’s three concerts in Amsterdam followed a weekend of tour dates in Dublin in late June.

The Fortnight singer will next be seen in a powerful three-and-a-half-hour performance in Zurich, Switzerland, where she performed on two consecutive nights last week.

Later this summer, she will complete the European leg with five shows in London, where she put on a stunning performance in June. During her London shows, she also posted selfies with Prince William and his children and got several A-list celebrities grooving to her music.
