Police investigate death of 3-year-old boy found in Rockville pool

Montgomery County detectives are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who was found at a Rockville swimming pool late Friday night, police said Saturday.

According to police, the boy was reported missing in a call to Montgomery County 911 at around 11:45 p.m.

Rockville City Police responded to Elmcroft Court between King Farm and Redland Boulevard, “where the child was found in the neighborhood swimming pool,” the statement said.

According to the statement, police officers who responded to the incident performed CPR on the child.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews also responded to a “possible drowning incident,” spokesman Pete Piringer wrote on social media. MCFRS crews “transported a toddler with life-threatening injuries/condition” to a local hospital, he said.

The child was pronounced dead in the hospital, police said.

There is no suspicion of foul play, police said, and the child’s identity will not be disclosed.

Police did not say in their statement whether the child was autistic, but noted that the Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Department reminds residents to call 911 immediately if a loved one is wandering.

The unit’s website contains resources on hiking safety, suggestions and contact information for the unit’s officers, the statement said.
