The Amphitheater Summer Series brings free live music to Volunteer Park

Imagine a sunny summer evening, blankets and camping chairs spread out on a huge lawn, and people enjoying their picnic dinner while listening to live music – that’s what the Summer Series at the Amphitheater is all about.

Mark your calendars for Season 3 of this Volunteer Park Trust summer series. These free (yes, free!) concerts take place on a newly constructed stage in beautiful Volunteer Park on Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

The series’ producer, Terry Morgan, said the series offers viewers the opportunity to experience first-class entertainment in a beautiful park setting.

“We showcase the best talent from the Northwest and some international talent as well,” Morgan said.

This year’s artists include a Brazilian jazz pianist, an Afro-fusion band, a Celtic-Mexican group and a rock and soul band.

Most of the performances are musical, but one night there is also an interactive dance experience with Dance Church. Come dance before enjoying a live musical performance on Thursday 1 August.

Morgan said Volunteer Park has always been a center of cultural performances for the city. With the Summer Series at the amphitheater, Volunteer Park returns to its roots as a gathering place for the community.

Beginning Thursday, July 11, the Summer Series will run at the amphitheater for six Thursday nights: July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, August 8 and August 15. Each night will feature at least two artists, an opener and a headliner. Each concert begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. The headliner typically takes the stage around 7 p.m.

Bring a picnic dinner or purchase it from an on-site food truck. Bring blankets, chairs and anything else you need for a great summer evening of live performances.

Janice Sears, chair of the Summer Series at the Amphitheater, said, “The best way to get to the Summer Series is by foot, bike or public transportation, but there is also easy street parking near the park.”

Morgan also highlighted one of the best aspects of the series – it’s free! Many summer festivals and outdoor events cost money, but the Summer Series is free and doesn’t require tickets. He said, “It’s just a great gathering place to get your friends together for a night out without having to spend hundreds of dollars and bring the whole family.”

So pack your picnic baskets, grab a blanket, tell your friends and come along to the Summer Series in July and August!
