Tributes to the famous singer Hassan Jahangir, who became famous through the song Hawa Hawa

KARACHI – The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi under its leadership felicitated the stage show committee of famous singer Hassan Jahangir at Auditorium II. The event was attended by eminent personalities from the music industry including President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Azhar Hussain, Amjad Shah, Saadat Ali Jafri, Kashif Grami, Ayub Khoso, Akhtar Ali Akhtar, Kamal Mughal, Taha Saleem and Ayaz Khan. The event began with a showreel showcasing the artistic journey of Hassan Jahangir. Nouman Khan moderated the ceremony. In his remarks, President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Muhammad Ahmed Shah praised Hassan Jahangir and called him a true and good human being. He highlighted Hassan Jahangir’s famous song ‘Hawa Hawa’ and said that it would earn millions if released today. Shah thanked artists like Hassan and Umer Sharif for raising Pakistan’s reputation in India, calling Hassan a “messenger of joy” and thanked the Pakistani government for recognizing the contributions of artists. Saadat Ali Jafri noted that people may crumble to dust but their work is remembered. Azhar Hussain shared that all personalities related to arts and culture are recognized at the Arts Council and recalled how they played drums in Jahangir’s famous song ‘Hawa Hawa’ which brought them global recognition. Akhtar Ali Akhtar recalled his 25-year-long relationship with Hassan Jahangir and noted that despite Hasan Jahangir’s immense fame, it never went to his head and stressed the importance of recognizing him. Kashif Grami pointed out that under Ahmed Shah’s leadership, the Arts Council not only holds memorials but also recognizes the work of artists during their lifetime. He praised “Hawa Hawa” for making history and mentioned that people are still singing the song 40 years later.

Kamal Mughal praised Hassan as a sincere friend and an outstanding human being, while Zahid Shah called him the pride of Pakistan. Taha Saleem mentioned the creation of a street and an academy in Taimura Library named after Hassan Jahangir, while Ayaz Khan admired Jahangir’s energetic singing style and compared him as oxygen for his identity.
