Chicago sports legends give famous Command “Drivers, start your engines”, 6-7 July

NASCAR Chicago Street Race announced that Hockey Hall of Fame member Chris Chelios and Chicago Bears fan favorite Matt Forte will serve as Grand Marshals for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend this weekend, July 6-7, in Grant Park.

“Chicago is one of the best sports cities in the world and NASCAR is proud to be a part of this historic Chicago sports culture,” said Julie Giese, president of Chicago Street Race. “Chris and Matt are two of the city’s most recognized sports icons and we are excited to welcome their winning spirit to this weekend’s races.”

In keeping with NASCAR tradition, Hockey Hall of Fame member, Chicago Blackhawks legend and Chicago native Chris Chelios will deliver the call “Drivers, start your engines” before the NASCAR Xfinity Series race Loop 110 on Saturday, while Forte will give the famous command before the NASCAR Cup Series Grant Park 165 on Sunday.

Chelios is one of the longest-tenured players in NHL history and will represent his hometown of Chicago at this year’s Grant Park 165. The hockey legend played for the Blackhawks from 1990 to 1999 and won three Stanley Cup championships during his career.

Fan favorite Matt Forte played for the Chicago Bears for eight years. He was named “one of the 100 greatest Bears of all time” by the team and is one of only three players to record at least 1,000 rushing yards and 100 receptions in a single season.
