Showrunner confirms Fate at Max for Arkham Asylum series

Showrunner confirms Fate at Max for Arkham Asylum series

After four years in development hell, a planned Arkham Asylum Series has been canceled. Recently, it was reported that the series, which was planned as a streaming release on Max, has been officially canceled.

Originally a spinoff of Robert Pattinson’s The BatmanThe series was produced by director Matt Reeves. It was originally conceived as a series focusing on the officers of the Gotham Police Department, but evolved into a show set in Arkham Asylum. In December 2023, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn announced that the project would now take place in the DCU and not in the same world as The BatmanNow showrunner Joe Otterson has reacted to the news and confirmed with a post on X that production has failed.

What is the best Batman comic series for new fans?

When someone asks me where to start with Batman comics, I usually recommend the beginning of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s New 52 series. The Court of Owls story is phenomenal, and Snyder and Capullo’s series as a whole is a great mix of old and new. It’s perfect for introducing someone to the Dark Knight in comic form.

“To clarify, James Gunn said months ago that the Arkham Asylum Show would be part of the DCU and not Reeves’ world of The Batmansaid Otterson. “But there is now NO Arkham show in active development at DC. They could always repeat it later with a new author, but the original project that Max committed to in 2020 is dead. That was the Gotham PD show, which Reeves said had “kind of evolved” into a Arkham Show. Anything that is being developed now would be completely new and separate from that.”

As Otterson suggested, it’s always possible that a new series will be made for the DCU set in Arkham Asylum, but it would be developed completely from scratch. In the meantime, there will be more exploration of the world of The Batman. A spin-off series starring Colin Farrell as the Penguin is coming to Max in September, and Robert Pattinson’s Batman is rumored to make a special appearance. A sequel to The Batman is also in development.
