Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart splits from the singer after three years

Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart splits from the singer after three years

ET confirmed that Mathew Rosengart, the lawyer who freed Britney Spears from her 13-year conservatorship, has split from the pop star.

A source told ET, “Britney will always be incredibly grateful to Mathew and their successful collaboration.” The source added, “Mathew will not let her down and will always care deeply for her, but his role was that of a litigator. The goals were achieved, particularly the restoration of her civil liberties, and the process is now complete.”

Mathew Rosengart is no longer representing the 42-year-old singer after settling the final issues in the conservatorship proceedings in April following a years-long financial dispute with her father Jamie Spears. A source told ET at the time that Britney was ready to “put it all completely behind her. And never return.”

Rosengart also said in a statement at the time that the pop star’s “wish for freedom has now truly been fulfilled.”

As CNN first reported, Rosengart officially separated from the singer following that settlement, officially and completely removing Britney from the administration of her estate. The network reported that Rosengart, a partner at the Los Angeles-based firm Greenberg Traurig, will focus on his extensive caseload for other clients.

“It was an honor to work with and protect Britney, who is and always will be an icon. But most importantly, I helped restore the basic rights and civil liberties we took from her. That was always our focus,” Rosengart later said in a statement to People.

Britney, who is apparently currently vacationing in Mexico, hired Rosengart in 2021 when she wanted to end her conservatorship. She subsequently gave explosive testimony at a hearing, sharing that she would like nothing more than to “end the conservatorship without judgment” and regain control of her life. She also shared a series of shocking allegations against her father and her team.

Before hiring Rosengart, Britney had previously been represented by a public defender, who was at the forefront of leading the effort to help Britney break free from the conservatorship that the pop star said had a tight grip on her finances, career, personal life and even her reproductive decisions.

In September 2021, Jamie was finally suspended from his role as guardian. Less than two months later, on November 12, 2021, Judge Brenda Penny ruled in front of the world that the conservatorship would be terminated.

“I think it’s safe to assume she’s very happy,” Rosengart said at the time, adding that “the goal” is to have Britney released from conservatorship by her 40th birthday on December 2, 2021.
