Destro prepares for war in the new GI Joe continuity

Summary

  • Destroy
#2 escalates the war between weapons manufacturers that has been brewing in the miniseries, with the Crimson Twins declaring war on Destro and MARS Industries.
  • The conflict lays the foundation for an exciting story in the Energon universe and could have significant implications for the future shared continuity.
  • The Energon Universe is named after the valuable resource Energon, which is at the center of the increasingly brutal conflict between Destro and the Crimson Twins, as well as the overarching storyline of the entire continuity.

Destroy #1 caused a major conflict in the GI Joe – The Movie corner of the Energon universe, as the titular villain enters a war of a completely different magnitude. The first issue ended with the Crimson Twins Tomax and Xamot declare war on Destro and MARS Industriesand established her company as a leading weapons manufacturer in the global arms race.

In the preview published by Skybound Entertainment Destroy #2 – written by Dan Watters, with art by Andrei Bressan – switches between Destro and the Crimson Twins giving speeches to their respective defense contractors.

It’s interesting to see how similar the two speeches are, with each side attempting to mobilize its forces against the other, using tried-and-tested propaganda tools to twist history in their favor. Tomax and Xamot protest their innocence before their own company, claiming that Destro staged a false flag attack on his own men to provoke them into conflict.

The shady war between weapons manufacturers leads to an exciting conflict for Destroy over the course of five issuesand the setup is perfect for GI Joe – The MovieThe most famous arms dealer. The first edition ended with an arms fair hosted by Destro, attended by all the leading manufacturers in the world. Extensive Enterprises, the company run by Tomax and Xamot Paoli, is absent from the scene. As it turns out, they were absent for a reason, as they are launching an attack on Destro by using new, high-tech stealth drones to bomb the fair.

Destroy #1 was an excellent start for the last miniseries before the start of GI Joe – The Movie #1 in November. Given that Tom Reilly’s cover for this issue features Destro and the Crimson Twins alongside the forces of Cobrait seems that the Destroy The miniseries will end with both parties reaching some sort of détente, but considering the treacherous nature of many members of the Cobra organization, everyone will be vying for power and authority. Whatever the outcome, it will be exciting to see how Destroy builds on the new Energon Universe GI Joe – The Movie Series.
