Michigan State’s Carson Cooper talks about 2024-25 West Coast games

Aside from the Champions Classic and holiday tournaments, the Michigan State University basketball team doesn’t leave the Midwest very often during the regular season.

This will change in the future.

With UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington joining the Big Ten, the Spartans will travel west more often. Next season, Michigan State is scheduled to travel to the West Coast to face the Trojans and Bruins.

At the 2024 Moneyball Pro-Am last week, Michigan State center Carson Cooper talked about his thoughts on traveling to Golden State for these matches.

“I can’t really complain too much because I know they’ve had it 10 times worse than us there,” Cooper said. “But I mean, all I’ve heard is that we’re probably playing USC and UCLA in the same week, so it’s easy for us. But it’s going to be pretty cool to get to the West Coast for a little bit. New surroundings, new fan base, new basketball. So I’m excited.”

The Spartans will make several long-distance trips before and during the season, with Tom Izzo and his team’s upcoming trip to Spain just around the corner. They will also return to the Maui Invitational in November.

Michigan State has not played UCLA in Los Angeles since the 2003-04 season. The overall score is tied 3-3.

The Spartans’ game against USC will be their first meeting with the Trojans in California. The two teams last met in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Michigan State leads the standings 2-0.
