NFL stars mourn Khyree Jackson’s death at 24

The NFL community mourned the tragic death of the Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson.

“We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following a car accident overnight,” the Vikings said in a social media statement Saturday, July 6. “Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident.”

Maryland State Police confirmed Saturday that Jackson was killed in a car crash in Upper Marlboro. He was 24 years old.

Jackson was drafted by the Vikings in the fourth round in April, along with other rookies JJ McCarthy And Dallas Turner.

“He still has too much to do,” the Vikings rookie quarterback wrote in his Instagram story on Saturday. “Rest in peace, a phenomenal athlete, but more importantly, a truly freaking great man.”

McCarthy added: “See you in the next life, family.”

Kevin O’Connell

The Vikings head coach also mourned Jackson’s death.

“I am absolutely devastated by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and team,” O’Connell wrote in a statement. “His confidence and engaging personality immediately attracted his teammates. In our short time together, it was obvious that Khyree would develop into a great professional football player, but even more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him.”

O’Connell further noted that he was “at a loss for words” and expressed his condolences to Jackson’s “family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

“Prayers for the family, friends and loved ones of Khyree Jackson. The former Oregon Duck and current Minnesota Vikings cornerback passed away last night in a car accident at the age of 24,” the retired NFL quarterback wrote about X. “Gone far too soon. Heartbreaking.”

Griffin also sent “prayers” to Jackson’s friends AJ Lytton Jr. And Isaiah Hazelwho also died in the accident.

“Prayers for the family, friends and loved ones of former FSU and Penn State cornerback AJ Lytton Jr. and former Maryland and Charlotte cornerback Isaiah Hazel, who was also killed in the same car accident as Khyree Jackson,” Griffin added. “All high school teammates and all gone far too soon.”
