11-year NBA veteran reacts to Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama collaboration

11-year NBA veteran reacts to Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama collaboration

Chris Paul shocked the NBA world when he decided to join the San Antonio Spurs during his free agency period instead of returning home to Los Angeles. This decision caused a stir in all conversations, including among former NBA stars.

On an episode of The Gil’s Arena Show, three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas gave his prediction on how Chris Paul would fit in with Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. In Arenas’ eyes, Paul will help control the Spurs’ offense and eliminate the randomness of their game-building.

“The way Chris Paul plays, everything is controlled,” Arenas said. “That’s going to stop all the nonsense they’ve been doing, just all the random plays. I expect them to be in that 11.10 range. Every team he’s ever played on, like OKC when he got there, he got guys moving. When he was in New Orleans, that pathetic team looked like it was pretty good. He’s doing pretty well with what he’s got.”

Last season, the San Antonio Spurs finished 14th in the Western Conference with a record of 22-60. The 10th and 11th seeded teams had 46 and 41 wins, respectively, and Arenas believes the Spurs will improve by that amount under Chris Paul.

Although the former Memphis Grizzlies guard believes in Paul’s leadership qualities on the court, Paul’s former teammate Nick Young explained that those accomplishments were achieved under a much younger Chris Paul.

Chris Paul averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds on 44/37/83 shooting last season. Although he has proven to be one of the best floor generals in NBA history, Chris Paul is now 39 years old.
