Sons of the American Revolution honor heroes of the Revolutionary War in the Ohio Valley

MARTINS FERRY, Ohio (WTRF) — Some people may not know that the men and women who shaped our country are buried right here in the Ohio Valley.

The Sons of the American Revolution held a memorial service today at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Martins Ferry to honor the Revolutionary War heroes buried there.

During the ceremony, they unveiled a new sign directly in front of Betty Zane’s statue with a list of soldiers buried in the cemetery.

The sign is the first of dozens they plan to put up throughout eastern Ohio where Revolutionary War veterans are buried.

One of the main goals of the SAR is to preserve history and inform the public about events throughout the region.

We want to honor these patriots, these men and these women, so that they understand the sacrifices that were made for the freedom we enjoy today.”

Jeff Turner | Chapter President, Sons of the American Revolution, Ebenezer Zane Chapter

This is our effort to refresh everyone’s memory of history. And hopefully when people come to this cemetery, they will honor this cemetery and honor these veterans and these people who helped build this country.”

Larry Perkins | Secretary, Founding President, SAR Ebenezer Zane Chapter

The Sons of the American Revolution would like to thank the City of Martins Ferry for allowing them to continue preserving the city’s history.
