Three people arrested during fireworks display in Harrisburg: officials

On three separate occasions during the show at Riverfront Park, police noticed what they believed to be weapons being carried in the crowd, Mayor Wanda RD Williams said in a statement.

According to officials, they fled when officers approached them.

A juvenile was later found with a Glock with a 24-round magazine, and an adult man was observed with another juvenile throwing a gun into the river as they fled, authorities said. All three were reportedly arrested.

Another youth was caught with an air rifle and later released, police said.

“Other children were lighting firecrackers and running. One person ran into me and fell on my leg,” Mayor Williams wrote.

According to police, the mayor was knocked over and suffered minor injuries.

“At that point, Commissioner Carter made the decision to end the fireworks early for everyone’s safety.”

“Aside from being angry about what happened, I am deeply grateful to our Harrisburg Bureau of Police officers for their heroic actions,” she continued.

“When they noticed a potential danger, they ran towards it and thus prevented a possible disaster.”

No shots were fired during the incident, Harrisburg police added.
