In the first post, Thurlow announced his decision to leave Toei Animation and One piece employees. He added that One piece remains his favorite shonen series. Given the effort he puts into every sequence, it is hardly surprising that One piece is very close to his heart. He was involved in over 20 episodes as a lead animator.

I plan on directing One Piece again before the series ends (so I will be *back*)… but not anytime soon. In the next few years I’ll see what else is available.

Henry Thurlow also cleared any doubts fans had that his departure was forced and in discord. In fact, he mentioned that he was looking forward to the content that Toei produces. The thread ended on a positive note as Henry Thurlow stated that he would love to come back to direct the episodes in the future. Although he didn’t give an estimate, it’s safe to assume that this won’t happen for 5–6 years.

The virtuoso also pointed out that the decision was made some time ago, which means he had time to think about it. He also clarified that he only released the statement after the release of episode 1110, as this was the last project he was working on. Henry Thurlow also clarified that he is already working on several projects and is excited to show the audience the results. At the moment, it is still unclear what new projects he is working on.

What this means for the series

Henry Thurlow leaves Toei Animation and the One piece Team is obviously a big blow, but fans don’t have to worry. Toei Animation has proven that it can handle things and provide fans with entertaining episodes. There are still many big names involved in One pieceincluding the following:

  • Naotoshi Shida: An experienced animator who Digimon, Dragon Ball, TorikoAnd Sailor Moon.
  • Vincent Chansard: An up-and-coming animator from France who fascinates One piece fans with its breathtaking animation.
  • Akihiro Ōta: He worked on Digimon, Toriko, World TriggerAnd One piece.
  • Megumi Ishitani: She has quickly secured her place as one of the most talented directors in the world. The quality of the episodes she has worked on has been praised all over the world.

Besides these talented names, there are many others who put their heart and soul into the work. It is thanks to their combined efforts that the One Piece anime has reached such heights. This has been evident since the Wano Country arc when the studio changed things completely.

Is One Piece getting better?

Luffy uses Gear 4th

There is no easy way to answer this question, but looking at some of the anime’s recent episodes, it seems obvious that Toei can take things to the next level at any time. After the Wano arc ended, many fans were skeptical whether Egghead would receive the same treatment or if One piece would return to a bad pace where the anime barely adapted some chapters. However, Toei Animation has proven that it is not messing around and will do everything to One piece ahead of the competition.

The Egghead arc was absolutely phenomenal. The most recent example of Toei’s outstanding work is episode 1109, where the animators turned a single scene from the manga into an action-packed sequence that lasted more than a minute. The good news is that One piece Fans will soon have the chance to enjoy some of the manga’s biggest fights. These include Shanks vs. Eustass Kid and Garp vs. the Blackbeard Pirates. The fight between Shanks and Kid was over in a flash in the manga, so it will be interesting to see if it is expanded in the anime to make it look like a proper duel. Garp’s fight with the Blackbeard Pirates, on the other hand, lasted a little longer and included many interesting moments. Fans can look forward to seeing both fights in the coming weeks.
