The monsoon season is back and will bring heavy rains across the country in the coming weeks.

The grey clouds and humid air could be a downer for those who enjoy being outdoors and enjoying the sun.

But there are no better days than rainy weekends to curl up on the couch and listen to melancholic ballads.

Remember these titles for this year’s monsoon season, which is likely to end by the end of this month.

Taeyeon – “Rain”

K-pop diva Taeyeon, also a member of the legendary K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation, released this single in February 2016.

“Rain” is a mid-tempo pop song with a unique melody and chord progression.

The song describes a dreary, rainy day that makes the streets seem even greyer.

Taeyeon sings about being trapped in the happy memories of an ex-lover, drenching her like rain with overwhelming loneliness.

The song won first place on SBS’ Inkigayo and the Best Digital Song award at the 31st Golden Disk Awards.

Heat- “You, clouds, rain”

Singer-songwriter Heize, also known as the Breakup Queen for her love and breakup songs, released this song in June 2017 as part of her third mini album “///”.

“You, Clouds, Rain” featuring singer Shin Yong-jae revealed a new melancholic side of Heize, who was into hip-hop music at the time.

As a rapper, she became famous through her appearance in the hip-hop competition show “Unpretty Rapstar 2”.

The song is about a rainy day that abruptly reminds her of a significant past love, but one she does not regret ending.

The track landed at number 1 on the most important local music charts, including “Melon” and “Genie”.

Solar Eclipse – “Sudden Shower”

This song shows that not all songs about rain have to be sad.

“Sudden Shower” was released in April this year and is from the original soundtrack of tvN’s hit romantic drama series “Lovely Runner”.

Actor Byeon Woo-seok, who plays Ryu Sun-jae, a member of the fictional boy band Eclipse, sings the song.

The song compares a lover to a sudden downpour of rain, described as a gift from heaven.

“Sudden Shower” has a special significance within the plot as it is a song that Ryu Sun-jae sings in reminiscing about Im Sol, the female protagonist.

The song even made it into the Billboard Global 200 charts, which underlines the worldwide popularity of “Lovely Runner”.
