  • Where: The class action lawsuit against Frontier Communications was filed in federal court in Texas.

A new class action lawsuit blames Frontier Communications for a data breach earlier this year that affected more than 2 million consumers.

Plaintiff Jennifer Myers’ class action lawsuit alleges that Frontier failed to implement “reasonable and appropriate” cybersecurity procedures and protocols that would have protected consumers’ personal information from a “foreseeable and preventable” cyberattack.

“Defendant has violated the rights of Plaintiff and Class Members by, among other things, intentionally, willfully, recklessly, or negligently failing to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure that its data systems are protected from unauthorized access,” Frontier Communications’ class action lawsuit states.

Myers seeks to represent a class of consumers nationwide whose personal information was accessed and/or obtained by an unauthorized party as a result of the Frontier data breach in March 2024 or thereafter.

Consumers face high risk of fraud and identity theft due to Frontier Communications data breach and class action lawsuits

Myers argues that consumers have already fallen victim to identity theft as a result of the data breach and face an “increased and immediate risk of fraud and identity theft” in the future.

“The identities of Plaintiff and Class Members are now at risk due to Defendant’s negligent conduct, as data thieves accessed and acquired the personal information it collected and stored,” Frontier Communications’ class action lawsuit states.

Myers claims that Frontier is guilty of negligence, negligence per se, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment. She is demanding a jury trial and is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief, as well as an award of actual, nominal, statutory, consequential, and punitive damages for herself and all members of the class.

In other data breach news, consumers filed at least nine class action lawsuits against AT&T earlier this year following reports of information leaked by more than 70 million of his current and former clients have leaked online.
