Saweetie still has ‘nervousness’ about releasing new songs – Music News

Saweetie still gets “jitters” when it comes to releasing new music.

The 30-year-old rapper has released dozens of singles and has been nominated for a Grammy twice, but despite her popularity, she is always worried about how her songs will be received.

She told People magazine: “I get nervous every time something is published. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

“I’m nervous, I can’t sleep at night and I feel like I’m sharing a very personal part of myself with others, because that part is created in the studio and will then be shared with the world at some point.”

Saweetie is “really grateful” that her latest single “Nani” has been so well received.

She said: “This is the first time I feel like there was general agreement that it’s a good song.

“I haven’t really had to fight much online, if you know what I mean. Even the haters have congratulated me, the backhanded compliments… You just have to give credit where credit is due.

“It was just a great moment. I think all artists appreciate a moment where their art is well received.”

The ‘Best Friend’ singer, whose real name is Diamonte Harper, is now looking forward to her next album, which she hinted will feature “a lot more singing”.

She explained: “There are songs where a lot of the bars are continuous. There are songs where I’m a little more vulnerable about certain things that might have happened to me. I just feel like you get to know me better with each song and I’m really excited to share that with my fans.”

But Saweetie is in no hurry to release her long-delayed debut album, “Pretty BITCH Music,” which was first planned for release three years ago.

She said: “This first album sets the tone for your career. I really took my time with this piece of art because it is delicate, sensitive and it means a lot to me.

“I think it is our duty (as artists) to take this art seriously.

“Not many people are given this platform. I’m just grateful that I even have the opportunity to make a name for myself that is recognized worldwide.”

“I still have a lot of work to do, but because I have so much time to explore myself and get to know myself as a person, as a woman and as an artist, I feel like I’m ready to share these stories. I have a lot of stories to tell.”
