Summary

  • Apple TV+ has successfully adapted Blake Crouch’s science fiction novel
    Dark matter
which sparked interest in adapting other works by Crouch.
  • Recursion
another popular novel by Crouch, could be a possible next adaptation, with similarities to
    Dark matter
    in themes and storytelling.
  • Apple TV+ may prioritize other Crouch works such as
    Update
    And
    Summer frost
    before adjustment
    Recursion
which may result in a longer wait time for adjustment.

I was nervous about how Apple TV+ Dark matter adaptation, but now that I’ve seen how well it was done, there is another Blake Crouch novel that I would like to see treated like this. Crouch has written many science fiction novels, with Dark matter is one of his most popular, so I completely understand why Apple TV+ chose it first – well, that and the fact that the author Stubborn pines The adaptation of the trilogy was canceled by Fox after season 2. Dark matter illustrates Crouch’s talent for highly conceptual storytellingbut another of his books takes his intellectual style to the next level.

Dark matter made changes to the book when it was adapted for the screen, so I would expect the same to happen with any other live-action adaptation of Crouch’s work. However, all new introductions to the narrative and fresh additions to the Dark matter The cast of characters complemented the source material perfectly, so I’m much less worried about another of the author’s books being adapted – if it ever gets picked up for Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ should offer Recurration as a live-action version after the success of Dark Matter

Recursion would be a great addition to Apple TV+’s extensive sci-fi collection

Dark matter was originally published in 2016. Three years later, in 2019 Recursion hit the shelves. I remember buying it without even reading the blurb. Crouch is one of the authors who I am convinced will always give me a pleasant journeyand I was not disappointed with what I found. I admit that Recursion could be difficult to adapt for television, but I also thought that over Dark matterNow Apple TV+ has proven that it is more than capable of bringing Blake Crouch’s mind-blowing stories to life, and I really hope Recursion is next to.

Of course, I know that there is no guarantee that Recursion will be somewhere near the top of Apple TV+’s priority list. In fact, I suspect that a potential Dark matter Season 2 could be in sight – especially if you look at the teasers at the end of Dark matter Season 1. However, the platform must find Dark matterThe excellent reviews are encouraging considering that the project is her first Crouch collaboration. Although Recursion It is not confirmed that it will be adapted by Apple TV+I have to believe that it is at least one of the contenders in Crouch’s oeuvre.

What Blake Crouch’s “Recursion” is about (and how the book compares to “Dark Matter”)

At first, Recursion felt completely different than Dark matterbecause the former has two protagonists and the latter does not have a lone hero. Recursion As the film progresses, Crouch’s trademarks become more and more obvious. The biggest difference is Recursion uses the time travel clichéinstead of Dark matter‘s multiverse. Both stories take their respective science fiction tropes and shed new light on them, with Crouch using them in incredibly creative ways.

RecursionThe time travel technology of requires the characters to pause at a specific point in time so that they can travel back via memories. When the traveler eventually reaches the point in time from which they originally traveled back, the events of the altered and original timelines coexist in the minds of everyone affected by the temporal divergence. Initially interpreted as a neurological pathogen, time travel eventually becomes public knowledge and has disastrous consequences. So, the stakes are much higher in Recursion than in Dark matterbecause Jason Dessen and his environment are the only ones who suffer.

Recursion
‘s time travel technology requires characters to remain at a specific point in time to allow them to travel back in time through memories.

In essence, Dark matter is about accepting the past. I also found it to be a cautionary tale about not dwelling on regrets. The story conveys this by having Jason2 take extreme and ultimately unsuccessful measures as he tries to correct the decisions he believed years later were wrong for him. Recursion has a very similar message, except that it offers the characters the opportunity to actually travel back and make the desired changes to the timeline. As in Dark matter, RecursionThe chance for a second chance gets completely out of control.

1 Dark Matter Easter Egg suggests that I will have to wait a while for the recursion adjustment

Apple TV+ has already teased its next Blake Crouch projects

There is some evidence that Recursion could be at least third in line when it comes to future adaptations of Blake Crouch books on Apple TV+. Dark matter Season 1, Episode 7, “In the Fires of Dead Stars,” I noticed a shy allusion to two other works by the author: Update And Summer frost. The titles are seen outside a movie theater as Jason runs to his house upon arriving in his hometown of Chicago.

The ending of Dark Matter took me completely by surprise (even after reading the book)

I didn’t expect the Dark Matter series to end this way, and was shocked to realize that reading the book hadn’t prepared me enough.

While I would be happy to see adaptations of these two Blake Crouch titlesI’m also aware that the production process isn’t fast. Neither have been officially announced yet and could be nothing more than a fun reference, but I feel that these are at least two semi-confirmed projects that Apple TV+ is looking to follow. Dark matterIf so, and even if Recursion is selected to be adapted after them, I will probably wait a long time until it follows Dark matter‘s success.
