Virgin Radio’s Chris Evans was on hand to present an award at the prestigious O2 Silver Clef Awards on Friday (7 July).

Scottish pop rockers Texas received the Tysers Live Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes artists of the highest caliber whose work continues to impact the music industry.

Frontwoman from Texas Sharleen Spiteri and the band I Don’t Want a Lover accepted the award from Chris on stage and received the gong alongside numerous other music legends, including Chaka Khan, Blur And Brian Johnson from AC/DC.

Johnson accepted the Amazon Music Legend Award on behalf of the Thunderstruck hitmakers and was presented with the award by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.

However, he was able to return the favor, as Johnson was on hand later that afternoon to present Knopfler with the American Express Music Icon Award.

After the big win, Johnson said: “We are thrilled to receive the Amazon Music Legend Award. As a band, we have been offering our own brand of music therapy for five decades. To hear how Nordoff and Robbins help young and old with the power of music is understandable and a compliment to us. Thank you for this honor.”

His buddy and Co-host of Music Legends Knopfler added: “I am honoured to have been selected as the recipient of the Icon Award at this year’s O2 Silver Clefs. It is a privilege to support an event that is directly part of such important music therapy work.

“The most beautiful thing about being an artist is meeting people who have been touched by your music. I think we have all appreciated the power of music in our own lives from time to time.”

Chaka Khan, known for her distinctive voice and style, received the Raymond Weil Global Impact Award from Mica Paris.

The Ain’t Nobody singer said: “Music has always been my comfort, my strength, my voice, a gift. I am grateful for this wonderful honor to be part of the creative community of Nordoff and Robbins, where the power of music is used to change, inspire and bring love to the world. Music truly heals.”

The most important award, the O2 Silver Clef Award, went to Blur for their iconic position at the heart of British music and cultural life for more than three decades.

“Making music with my brothers in Blur has been one of the greatest gifts of my life,” said bassist Alex James. “We are absolutely proud to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award and to help raise awareness for Nordoff and Robbins, a great organisation.”

Additionally, Jessie Ware took home the Live Nation Award for Best Female Actor, while the trophy for Male Actor went to Loyle Carner.

The 1975 won the ASM Global Best Group Award, while Cat Burns won the Ticketmaster Best New Music Award.

British jazz quintet Ezra Collective received the PPL Contemporary Music Award, while British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier received the Oak View Group Innovation in Music Award from Jamie Cullum.

The impossible-to-categorize Scottish group Young Fathers added the Pizza Express Live Best Live Act Award to their award wins.
