The famous father of the ‘Strictly’ star reveals why he did not want to take part in the show after his son’s engagement

The famous father of a Strictly Come Dancing star has declared that he would never take part in the dancing competition as he doesn’t want to steal the show from his son by also trying to show off his moves on the famous dance floor.

Jeff Brazier, who watched proudly as his son Bobby came runner-up in the hit BBC competition in 2023, spoke about whether he would ever take part. Speaking on This Morning, he said: “Bobby has been there, it’s his thing.

“I feel like I’d be stealing the show a little bit by entering that world. That was Bob’s thing and I want to leave it to him… I have a lot of things that I really enjoy doing, I have a lot of exciting projects ahead of me and I think I’m going to stay in my field.”

He continued: “But I don’t think doing Strictly would be right for me at the moment.”

Rather than following in his son’s footsteps, the pair will instead appear together on Celebrity Gogglebox, with Jeff joking about some of their shocking conversations during filming, saying: “Oh my God, I mean, it might not air and I don’t want to say it, but yeah, it was a bit wild and it was, yeah, something I won’t repeat. I just thought, ‘Really?!’ I think your kids always shock you, especially when you’ve got little boys, young men, I should say.

“But every now and then they’ll just throw something in and say, ‘Guess what I did last night?’ And you always think, ‘Oh, really? OK, maybe I didn’t want to know.’ But it’s good that he feels like he can tell me anything.”

Jeff was fully supportive of Bobby, whom he shares with the late TV personality Jade Goody, during his time on Strictly, where he worked alongside Dianne Buswell. Speaking to the camera about his father, Bobby said: “As a family we are very close, we needed to be because the loss has brought us closer together. To be someone my dad is proud of is everything.”

Jeff added: “I’m the one who gets to raise the boys. I’m the one who gets to watch him on Strictly and that brings so much joy into my life. I’m very, very grateful for that.”
