Bambie Thug releases a message of love at the end of the Eurovision performance

“Love will always triumph over hate,” said Irish singer Bambie Thug at the end of her performance at the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Previously, the singer, who has openly declared her pro-Palestinian views, had accused the Israeli broadcaster Kan of violating its rules and said that they were waiting for a response from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on the measures to be taken.

Television presenter Graham Norton, commenting on the BBC’s coverage, said the singer, who performed the song “Doomsday Blue”, was “predicted to be an extremely big success”.

He said: “I’m not a father, but I want to warn you: Younger children – and I mean this seriously – might find the next performance a little scary.”

He added: “Bambie Thug is a great artist and Ireland has delivered a very good production this year and there is a great chance that this will be a great success.”

On Saturday night, the Irish entry appeared on stage with the words “Crown the Witch” inscribed on his body in medieval Ogham script.

The singer, who uses the pronouns “they”/”them” and is the first Irish qualifier since 2018, had previously criticised Israeli representative Eden Golan, who is taking part in the competition.

Before the final, Bambie said in an Instagram story: “I have made several complaints to the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) about the incidents I experienced this week.

“Today they confirmed to my delegation in front of the others that Kan’s commentator had violated the rules of conduct during the Eurovision semi-final.

“I have been waiting patiently to hear what action the EBU will take following this breach of rules.

“I have since seen a statement from EBU Director General Noel Curran which contradicts this earlier confirmation.

“I am still waiting for an official update from the EBU.

“I hope to see you on stage tonight.”

A spokesman for the Israeli broadcaster Kan told the PA news agency: “We wish everyone good luck this evening.”

The Eurovision Song Contest organisers stated: “Bambie Thug did not perform at the third dress rehearsal and footage of her performance at the second dress rehearsal was used instead.”

“They missed the dress rehearsal due to a situation that is currently being discussed with the EBU and the organisers of the Song Contest.”

Irish broadcaster RTE reported that the singer had asked organizers to respond to comments made on Israeli television before her performance in the semi-final on Tuesday.

They told the broadcaster: “I am angry that other teams violate the EBU rules and are still allowed to compete.

“So there is definitely a war drum beating in my heart to push the performance even further than I have done so far.”
