“Power: Ghost” Season 4, Episode 5, Review: “Ego Death”

“Power: Ghost” Season 4, Episode 5, Review: “Ego Death”

(WARNING: Spoilers for this week Power Book II: Mind (See the summary below for the full episode.)

The moment we knew was coming finally came for Tariq in Power Book II: Mind Season four, episode five, titled “Ego Death.” Actually, there were two moments. The first is when Noma finally caught on to Tariq and Brayden’s illegal drug dealing at college parties. She discovered it when she found a bag of coke in her daughter Anya’s purse after she was brought the same bag of coke and it was supposedly from Stansfield. Noma goes to the next college party with Cane to witness the deal live, and although their plan is to kill Tariq, they are forced to stop him after Tariq uses Anya as a diversion.

The second moment is Tariq finally accepting that he is no different from his father. After a series of events that have led him astray, Tariq realizes he must use his father’s qualities to become an “apex predator” to be at the top of the drug business and ensure the safety of himself and loved ones like Brayden and his mother, Tasha. This hints at an epic second half of season four, which begins later this year on September 6.

Elsewhere, Monet and Dru discover that Detective Carter is a corrupt cop after his special forces unit catches them in the middle of a drug heist. To avoid being arrested, Monet and Dru’s team – minus Ice, who was killed by Carter – must give him 35% of their profits and avoid killing civilians or risk prison or death. Diana decides to keep her baby, and although Tariq is initially against it, an LSD trip helps him warm to the idea of bringing a child into the world. First, he and Diana must find common ground, as the two do not agree with Tariq participating in the drug trade while also being a father. The romance between Cane and Noma continues, while Brayden’s own romance becomes the subject of a major argument between him and Tariq.

Let’s dive into a summary of the fifth episode in Spirit Season four with some insights we gained after watching “Ego Death.”

The more Tariq tries to be different, the more he proves that he is just like Ghost

It lasted three and a half seasons Spiritbut Tariq eventually admitted that he is just like his father. Everything changed during a conversation with Brayden, where Tariq finally realized and accepted the similarities between him and Ghost. Despite this realization, Tariq still doesn’t fully see how similar he is to Ghost. Just like his father, Tariq is quite inconsiderate of the needs of the people around him who are close to him, and he can’t seem to prioritize their problems as much as his own.

When Brayden voices his issues during an argument with Tariq, they are brushed aside by Tariq telling him to “take this shit with composure like I do every day.” Later, Tariq expects Diana to be OK with him being deep in the drug business while they raise their child, rather than pretending he’s out like Ghost did. Either way, Tariq put his needs and wants above those of Brayden and Diana, without considering how they really feel or how their respective current situations affect them. Classic Ghost, if you ask me.

Monet chooses the easy way to rebuild her family

Monet almost lost two more children in episode four of Spirit as both Cane and Tariq were after Dru and Diana in retaliation for trying to kill Monet and framing Tasha for her own death. When Monet found out about Diana’s pregnancy, she immediately called Cane back just before he would have killed Dru and she also convinced Tariq not to do the same to Diana. Now it’s time to bring the family back together, but Monet wants to do it the easy way. The drug business tore her family apart, but now Monet hopes it can bring her family back together. Realistically, that’s the easy way to rebuild the family. Monet only knows the game and she relies on it to make up for her past mistakes and make up for her wrongdoings to the family, but the drug business is no place to start a family. If Monet wants things to be different, she’ll have to take a different approach.

Diana fails to put herself first and make things work with Tariq

Just when it seemed like Diana and Tariq might be able to work things out with their child along the way, Tariq dropped a bombshell by telling Diana about his plans to stay in the game while they raise their child. Diana, traumatized by her experiences with parents in the drug business, is determined to keep her first child as far away from the game as possible. So she makes it clear to Tariq that his plans for her and her child won’t work. Just like Dru, Diana is determined to put herself first and prioritize her wants and needs. That means putting herself (and her future child) above the needs of her family for once. To make that happen, Diana can’t compromise for Tariq’s sake. If Tariq can’t make the sacrifices necessary to give her child a safe life, then there’s no point in Diana trying to make things work. We’ve seen how things ended with Ghost as well as Lorenzo and Dante/Mecca, Diana doesn’t have to be the next to experience that.

Cane mixes love and power – a bad recipe

This season of Spirit has delivered a new and interesting love story between Cane and Noma. After Obi’s death, Cane took over the role as Noma’s right-hand man as they both developed feelings for each other. For Cane, their relationship certainly has its pros and cons as it allowed him to gain Noma’s trust and play a more important role in her drug business. On the other hand, the mix of love and power has never been a good recipe in the world. Power Universe. Noma is as ruthless as can be, so Cane not only has to worry about her potential retaliation if something goes wrong with her operation, but also about something going wrong with their romance. As the saying goes, “don’t shit where you eat,” and it looks like Cane is going to have to learn that the hard way.
