Chris Jericho’s upcoming plans in CMLL revealed

Chris Jericho’s upcoming plans in CMLL revealed

As part of the newly launched partnership between AEW and CMLL, fans in Mexico were able to see Blackpool Combat Club as well as Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Mone. Fans at Arena Mexico were completely surprised when Chris Jericho stormed in after his match on June 28 and attacked Mistico.

After a match, Jericho hid his face under Mistico’s mask and waited in ambush for the luchador. Jericho left his role as “The Learning Tree” behind and brought back the pain with Corazon de Leon as only Jericho can.

He used this during his first CMLL run from 1993-95. He then challenged Mistico to another match, which Mistico accepted, but the date has not yet been determined.

Details about the surprise appearance

But the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter shed some light on the story of how this appearance came about, and Dave Meltzer gave us some notes on it.

Meltzer also talked about how the appearance was such a surprise that no one, not even at All In 2, knew about it until Taven entered the ring. The rest is history and everyone was expecting Jericho’s CMLL debut, but few knew when.

It is rumored that the match between Jericho and Mistico will actually be the main event of CMLL’s 91st Anniversary show in September, with an official reveal expected in the next few days. CMLL commentators had originally announced that the match would take place a week after Jericho’s win over Dragon Rojo, but those plans have apparently fallen through.

Meltzer explained why Jericho hasn’t been involved in AAA in recent years, despite significant interest from both sides. Jericho wouldn’t cost anyone more – but despite his friendship with Konnan, then-booker of Lucha Libre AAA, and AEW’s association with the Mexican promotion, which now effectively makes him a short-term, rarely used rental in terms of jerseys, Jericho was simply too expensive.

Jericho’s unexpected appearance has certainly excited Mexican wrestling fans. With speculation continuing about the form of the official bout, the buzz around AEW/CMLL is already running high. September’s show is shaping up to be a blockbuster, and fans are excited to see how events will play out. Check back for more details on this breaking news as we get closer to CMLL’s milestone event.
