The best beaches in West Michigan
Depending on who you ask, this list can be a bit controversial. The best beaches are listed in no particular order.
Holland State Park
There is a lot to do in Holland State Park besides the beach. Holland State Park is home to the popular and historic Big Red Lighthouse.
Holland State Park is also ideal for the whole family as it has a playground and plenty of space for grilling.
Grand Haven State Park
Pure Michigan
It would be weird not to mention Grand Haven as it is very popular. Plus, Grand Haven State Park was named one of the top 25 beaches in the U.S. by Travel+Leisure Magazine in 2024.
There are plenty of other beaches including PJ Hoffmaster State Park, Oval Beach, Pere Marquette Park, Duck Lake State Park, Van Buren State Park, North Point Conservation Area, Olive Shores and more.

“Secluded” beaches in West Michigan
If you don’t like big crowds or prefer a secluded beach, here are a few places you might want to check out.
Laketown Beach – Holland – 6710 142nd Ave., Holland, MI 49423
Keep in mind that Laketown Beach requires you to walk down a flight of stairs to get to the beach, and while it’s a long walk back, it’s the perfect spot for a sunset beach day.
Laketown Municipality
There is limited parking, so I recommend arriving early on weekends. If parking is unavailable, you can park at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, which is less than two miles away.
Lake Harbor Park – Norton Shores – 4635 Lake Harbor Road, Norton Shores, MI 49441
When it comes to beaches, Lake Harbor is one of West Michigan’s best-kept secrets.
On the total area of 76 hectares you can explore numerous hiking trails through the forests or along the dunes.
