Local leaders speak at the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Elgin

The Golden K Kiwanis Club in Elgin invites the community to its weekly meetings to learn more about local programs or institutions. There is always time to talk with the speaker after the presentation.
Meetings are held on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in Lind Hall of Holy Trinity Church, 357 Division St. in downtown Elgin.
On June 5, the club welcomed Maureen Manning, executive director of the Community Crisis Center of Elgin. The center’s skilled and caring staff provides crisis intervention, resources and shelter 24/7.
On June 12, Elgin Community College President David Sam addressed the club. After nearly 18 years with ECC, he is retiring to take on a new challenge at Bermuda College starting August 5.
Mickey Miller, CEO of Senior Services Associates, spoke on June 19. She described the impressive array of services Senior Services offers, including shelter, care, emergency repair, visitation, recreation, transportation, supervision and nursing home ombudsman support.
Elgin Mayor David Kaptain also attended the June 26 meeting. He described Elgin as one of the few growing cities in Illinois. He informed the audience of several areas of special interest, including new businesses, community expansion, water supply and the issue of demolition of the Fox River Dam in Elgin.

• July 10: Shane McKenzie of the McGraw Wildlife Foundation.
• July 17: Michael Krupka of Easter Seals Fox/DuPage
• July 31: Jason Krabbe, Elgin Township Road Commissioner
