Hot temperatures in Palm Springs reach record high of 49 degrees Celsius, while Death Valley approaches highest temperature ever recorded on Earth

It’s hot in California.

Numerous cities in the Golden State set or broke heat records this week – not just for the date, but for their entire history.

More from Deadline

Idyllwild reached 40 degrees today, the highest temperature ever recorded in the city. According to the National Weather Service, Palmdale reached its record for the Fourth of July on Thursday, at 43 degrees. That record was originally set in 1973.

In Palm Springs, where scorching heat is no stranger, temperatures reached 125 degrees today, beating the city’s previous record of 123 degrees, last reached on June 17, 2021.

In Las Vegas, there is a chance that temperatures will rise above 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday or Monday – the current record.

But all of this pales in comparison to what is yet to come.

Temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius were also measured in Death Valley today. Tomorrow it will be 49 degrees Celsius, and on Sunday it will be 49 degrees Celsius. The temperatures outside could reach or even exceed the historic record of 56 degrees Celsius from 1913. This is also the highest temperature ever recorded on earth.
