Crazy Frog joins Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop 4 promo

Eddie Murphy’s title character in the Netflix film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has an unexpected crime-fighting partner.

The streaming service released a new commercial for the action comedy on Friday featuring Crazy Frog, the cartoon character who rose to pop culture fame nearly two decades ago with a dance-fueled rendition of the franchise’s theme music. The new commercial features key scenes from the film, inserting Crazy Frog into the plot to cause additional chaos for Murphy’s character.

Netflix’s official X account (formerly Twitter) posted the video on Friday with the message “CRAZY FROG AND AXEL FOLEY???” Among the accounts that responded to the post was T-Mobile’s, which commented “The GOAT of ringtones.” Netflix responded, “Invented ringtones.”

Crazy Frog is considered to be a 2003 creation by Erik Wernquist, originally marketed by ringtone provider Jamba! The song “Crazy Frog”, in which the animated amphibian speaks gibberish, was a reworking of a dance version by Murphy Brown and Captain Hollywood released two years earlier.

“Axel F and @crazyfrog have been an iconic duo since 2005,” reads a description of the new promo video on Crazy Frog’s YouTube page. “Crazy Frog is back with a new music video for the Netflix film Beverly Hills Cop.”
