Simi Doula publishes new book

As a birth and postpartum doula, Jill Magoffin of Simi Valley strives to reduce the stress, anxiety and pressure that come with the birth of a new baby.

For Magoffin, it is not a job, but a matter of the heart in the truest sense of the word.

“No matter what your family looks like or what birth plan you desire, I will support you in meeting your needs by offering you information and options without judgment,” she says on her website.

Magoffin conveys the same warmth and affection in her children’s books. “You Are So Loved” is about a family planning the birth of a new child; “Dear Little Baby” is for young children who are about to have a younger sibling.

Her latest book, The Adventures of Doula Sunny: A Family’s IVF Journey, was released in May and is about a doula who helps a couple on their journey to parenthood through IVF.

“I’m addicted to writing children’s books about what it’s like to be a doula and the incredible support they provide to families,” she writes on Instagram. “I love my work so much that I want to share it with the world.”

In the new book, doula Sunny helps Emily and Alex every step of their journey to parenthood, from the genesis of their dream of having a baby to the challenges of IVF to the joyful moment of their child’s birth.

With colorful illustrations and simple language, the book shows the special bond between doula Sunny and the families she helps.

“I wanted to share how doulas support families even before they become pregnant,” Magoffin said.

“The Adventures of Doula Sunny: One Family’s IVF Journey” is available online at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Magoffin doesn’t expect to sell a million copies; she just wants to recognize the support doulas provide.

“My books may not make the New York Times Top 100 list, but they come straight from my heart,” she said.
