Casa Amor has struck again and added another Love Island Villa on fire. During Love Island USA Season 6 was already the most entertaining of the American franchise due to the antics of the Love Island USA When the season 6 cast began with “Casa Amor,” the must-watch factor of this season had increased a hundredfold. Yes, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I actually took the time to watch the episodes during a week of summer vacation.
What makes this version of Casa Amor so entertaining is the fact that both Kordell and Aaron have completely surprised the audience. It’s like watching Boys are wild while the two men who had the most stable relationships in the villa are acting like there are no girls waiting for them to return after this trial breakup. Kaylor has spent every day crying over Aaron, and Serena has shed a few tears of her own claiming to miss Kordell.
Let’s focus on Kordell. From the moment he met Daia at Villa Casa Amor, the two have been incredibly emotional. They’ve kissed multiple times, they look at each other as if there are no other islanders around, and their level of intimacy is limitless. He even goes so far as to declare that his feelings for Daia are equal to those for Serena. This is all a bit confusing considering he’s only known Daia for two days, while he’s only been getting to know Serena for a few weeks.
To be honest, Kordell and Serena’s journey as a couple hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. They were together from the beginning, but there was a time when she questioned whether she saw him as more than just a friend. And who could forget Dance Gate when she left him dancing alone and decided to explore other connections? While the duo have come a long way and proved to be one of the more entertaining couples before Casa Amor, they didn’t technically choose to be exclusive.
Despite all of this, Kordell’s relationship with Daia seems especially bad because Serena hasn’t taken the time to get to know anyone in Casa Amor. She hasn’t kissed any of the new guys outside of challenges and even decided to sleep outside, all to respect Kordell. And again, she’s cried for him and repeatedly mentioned that she misses him. He, too, has talked about his connection to Serena, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing almond hockey.
Despite the conclusions drawn from a preview clip, Kordell and Daia did not progress beyond kissing. So Kordell’s situation does not accurately reflect Love Island USA Leo from season 5.
Since we mentioned him, fans of the show will remember that during Casa Amor in Season 5, Leo did the most shocking thing of the season and got together with Johnnie. Before that, he kept saying how much he liked Kassy, and the two seemed to be in a great place after the hiccup of his brief reunion with Anna. They were constantly kissing and having sweet talk. So Leo gave in to his hormones and his quick connection with Johnnie was just mind-blowing.
When Kassy found out what happened, she was completely devastated and angry. She questioned Leo’s sincerity and ripped him off for days, and of course the other female islanders joined her in insulting and shunning him. And even though she broke Kassy’s heart, she eventually took him back. The couple even went on to be finalists for the season. With all that being said, whose Casa Amor blunder was worse out of Kordell and Leo?
Although I had nothing to do with Daia, I have to say that Kordell’s actions make me say “yuck” more than Leo’s. Since Serena has been pretty open about her trust issues with romantic partners due to her past relationships, I feel terrible about her being provoked by Kordell’s actions since she only got a small taste of his Casa Amor actions. Kassy wasn’t necessarily as open about her relationship issues, so I don’t remember being concerned that she would be provoked by Leo’s actions. I knew she would be hurt, but not necessarily provoked.
What makes Kordell’s situation even worse is the fact that Serena hasn’t kissed a single man outside of challenges and hasn’t made any attempt to get to know any of the men from Casa Amor while pining after Kordell. Although he didn’t tell her he was going to be a saint before heading to the other villa, Kordell did share with the guys that he planned to be “respectful” about his relationship with Serena. He even went so far as to say he would sleep outside and not with a woman from Casa Amor, which clearly didn’t happen. Leo may have expressed his desire to respect Kassy, but I already knew there was a possibility he would entertain another girl due to the situation with Anna.
And even though Leo brought Johnnie back to the main villa, it quickly became clear that their connection paled in comparison to the one between him and Kassy. Hence the Leo and Kassy reunion. As much as I wanted Kordell and Serena to win this season, I unfortunately can’t downplay his obvious connection to Daia, and that could be another punch to the gut for Serena.
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out at the end that I don’t think Kordell and Leo are bad people. They’re on a game show looking for love, and neither of them knew their respective partners very long before things went south. And I don’t think they intended to hurt anyone, even though that’s exactly what they ended up doing.
New episodes of Love Island USA Season 6 will be broadcast peacock.
