Summer Shootout returns to Boys & Girls Club | Tracy Press

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy resumed their Summer Shootout Basketball Camp last week for more than 120 youth who participated in the basketball skills camp. Girls and boys ages 8 to 14 participated in the 4-day camp at the club’s Lowell and McKinley campuses.

The return of the Summer Shootout was made possible by reconnecting with its founders from over 30 years ago: former club CEO Kevin McCartney, Mark Grijalva and Mark Stroup. They provided advice and support and worked with Director of Operations Genaro Cueva to make the basketball camp a reality.

At the Summer Shootout, youth learn the basic skills and fundamentals of basketball and experience teamwork and sportsmanship in a positive environment. All players were provided with lunch daily and the players who made the most progress were recognized daily. The camp concluded with a championship game on Saturday at the Lowell Avenue Club.

A fundraising committee led by Boys & Girls Club board member John Palmer has raised $100,000 for such sports programs, and the committee’s efforts continue as the club continues to expand. For more information on programs and donations, visit the website at www.bgctracy.org.
