Chris Jericho – “Professional wrestling could easily become an Olympic discipline”

Chris Jericho is proud of his profession and is not afraid to share his often controversial opinions.

As a seasoned wrestling star, Jericho believes that professional wrestling deserves a place in the Olympics.

For decades, professional wrestling has struggled to gain recognition in the wider sporting world due to widespread misconceptions about its planned nature and identity as a planned performing art.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Blocks,” Jericho suggested that professional wrestling could be considered for the Olympics, similar to point-based sports such as figure skating or synchronized swimming.

The former AEW world champion emphasized that the athletic ability of professional wrestlers is a decisive factor that can make professional wrestling a legitimate contender for the title of an Olympic sport.

Jericho said: “I have seriously considered that professional wrestling could easily become an Olympic sport because it is a sporting performance between two people, similar to figure skating or synchronized swimming or anything else that is scored on points. Think about it. So let’s say I’m from Canada. Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, the best wrestlers from Canada. We put together our routine, and then you have Will Ospreay and Michael Oku from England. They put together their routine.”

He continued, TThen you met Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson from the USA, who put together their routine. Then the judges said, “Okay, that was the best. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses. Just like in figure skating.”
